I could not find it in the documentation (but that is obviously not an up-2-date resource).
I can recall that in "some" TD version, Gupta added HTTPS support using the class
HTTPRequest, located in
But I could be totally mistaken about this.
So, does anyone know if
HTTPRequest class supports it or not?
(and if so, from which TD version it is supported?)

I may have found something for you, Dave
I still have copies of all the old SalesForce issues that I was the T.S. engineer for, and I found an issue from 2012:
Folder title: 21658 - v6. XML-WEB SVCS question re HTTPS
contents of that folder: the PDF attached. Starting on pg. 11 is a section on HTTP & HTTPS is mentioned.
It looks like a customer opened this SF issue, I picked it up and my response/answer to the issue was to provide the attached PDF file. Maybe it will be of use to you (?)

on page 13 there is a clear statement:
Secure HTTPS using SSL and certificates
Currently the HTTREQUEST has no option to connect using secure HTTPS.
